大橘喜剧是美国东岸第一个、规模最大且最活跃的中文群体创作（ensemble work）导向喜剧社群，以即兴喜剧、短剧创作等形式为核心。

其组织形态诞生于 2024 年夏天纽约，源自 Xuan 带领的即兴戏剧工作坊群体，并在此期间逐步完成了大橘喜剧作为一个中文群体喜剧组织的整体愿景与结构构想。2025 年年末，Xuan 与长期在波士顿持续带领中文即兴戏剧工作坊的 Zilu 相遇。Zilu 被大橘喜剧清晰的愿景与成熟的组织框架所打动，双方一拍即合，开始共同推动项目发展，波士顿也由此成为大橘喜剧的重要篇章之一。

从时间线上看，大橘喜剧的实践先于其组织名称的正式诞生：自 2023 年夏天起，Zilu 已在波士顿持续开展相关实践；而 2024 年夏天，大橘喜剧作为一个组织在纽约正式形成。此后，大橘喜剧不断拓展其活动版图，开展了更加多元且持续的创作实践与社群活动。

Our Story

Big Orange Theater is the first, largest, and most active Chinese-language comedy community on the U.S. East Coast with a focus on ensemble-based creation, centering on forms such as Improv, sketch and more.

The organizational form of Big Orange Theater emerged in the summer of 2024 in New York, growing out of an improv theater workshop community led by Xuan. It was through Xuan’s organizational vision and initiative that the collective gradually developed its overall artistic direction and structural framework as a Chinese-language ensemble comedy organization. In late 2025, Xuan connected with Zilu, who had been leading Chinese-language improv theater workshops in Boston as a long-term personal practice driven by passion and interest. Moved by Big Orange Theater’s clear vision and well-developed organizational structure, the two immediately aligned and began working together to further advance the project. Boston thus became an essential chapter of Big Orange Theater on the U.S. East Coast.

Chronologically, Big Orange Theater’s practice predates the formal establishment of its organizational name. Beginning in the summer of 2023, Zilu had already been carrying out related practices in Boston; in the summer of 2024, Big Orange Theater officially took shape as an organization in New York. Since then, Big Orange Theater has continued to expand its scope of activities, engaging in increasingly diverse and sustained creative practices and community-based work.
